Canon 1426

1. Unless another penalty is provided in the law, according to

the ancient traditions of the Eastern Churches, penalties can be

imposed which require some serious work of religion or piety or

charity, such as certain prayers, a pious pilgrimage, a special

fast, alms, spiritual retreats. 2. Other penalties are to be

imposed on one who is not disposed to accept these penalties.
