Praying with the People of God

70. Christ promises that He will be in the midst of those gathered together in His name1.

In celebrating the Liturgy of the Hours2, we make our prayer one with that of Jesus, especially in the psalms3, which He Himself prayed. With the Church, we voice all creation's praise to God, and add our intercession to that which the Son presents to His Father4.

This Liturgy, carried out in community, sustains and renews our personal prayer5. When well celebrated, it has a witness value to those who pray with us.

Lauds is our morning prayer, and Vespers our evening prayer.

70.1 In fidelity to our Marist tradition, we usually begin the day with the Salve Regina or another marial hymn. This is followed by the invocations in use in the Institute, and by the morning offering.

(RC 1852, IX, 3; Life 364)

70.2 We are attentive to the animation of our prayers and we make use of the means to attain this end.

70.3 When a suitable occasion presents itself, we invite others to share our prayer: parents, friends, young people, ex-students, and other religious communities.
