  2   1, 9 |      could we be~different?'~ The Tathagata meditated deeply on the
  3   2, 10|        have found no fault in the Tathagata."~ The Bodhisattva was shrunken
  4   4, 14|          should the Holy One, the Tathagata, decide not to teach the
  5   4, 16|         he said: "Do not call~the Tathagata by his name nor address

 10   4, 17|          of the Holy One, and the Tathagata looking into~his heart said: "
 11   4, 17|          Vinaya proclaimed by the Tathagata shine forth~when they are
 12   4, 17|           the~exhortations of the Tathagata.~ ~
 13   5, 18|        his heart was shamed.~ The Tathagata, knowing his inward thoughts,
 14   6, 19|         Sakyamuni not come?"~ The Tathagata replied: "Didst thou not
 15   6, 20|         disciple of Gotama?"~ The Tathagata, reading the thoughts of
 16   6, 20|         the truth preached by the~Tathagata! Our Lord, the Buddha, sets
 17   6, 20|       refuge in the Sangha."~ The Tathagata, by the exercise of his
 18   6, 21|           the Buddha,~invited the Tathagata to his palace, saying: "
 19   7, 23|       Buddha, the Blessed~One the Tathagata, and I wish to open to the
 20   7, 23|       despised. The Dharma of~the Tathagata does not require a man to
 21   7, 23|         so; but the Dharma~of the Tathagata requires every man to free
 22   8, 25|           secure the favor of the Tathagata."~ The king listened with
 23   8, 27|  messenger said: "O~world-honored Tathagata, thy father looks for thy
 24   9, 28|      cleave. Should she touch the~Tathagata, the Holy One, ye must not
 25  10, 29|      Kapilavatthu believed in the Tathagata and took~refuge in his doctrine,
 26  10, 29|        place of bliss!"~ When the Tathagata had finished his repast,
 27  11, 32|          other women, went to the Tathagata entreating~him earnestly
 28  11, 32|       discipline announced by the~Tathagata, to attain to the fruit

 40  13, 47|    invested with the~robes of the Tathagata, let them enter into the
 41  13, 47|       enter into the abode of the~Tathagata, and occupy the pulpit of

 50  13, 47|   quarters of the universe.~ "The Tathagata is not avaricious, nor narrow-minded,
 51  13, 47|        shall do, O Lord, what the Tathagata commands.~We shall fulfill
 52  13, 47|        the Blessed One said: "The Tathagata is like unto a powerful~
 53  13, 47|           are the soldiers of~the Tathagata, while Mara, the Evil One,
 54  13, 47|        must be~conquered. And the Tathagata will give to his soldiers
 55  13, 48|          an end of pain! Says the Tathagata, The~path was preached by

 61  13, 49|           so is the coming of the Tathagata:~there is not one living
 62  13, 49|          living creature that the Tathagata passes by or~leaves aside,
 63  13, 49|        sure to reach Nirvana. The Tathagata~anxiously watches over his
 64  13, 50|   Sakyamuni, whom people call the Tathagata and the~Blessed Buddha,
 65  13, 50|          of my father."~ Then the Tathagata said: Thou dost well, O
 66  13, 50|  understand the ceremony. Let the Tathagata, who now~speaks to thee
 67  13, 51|     Blessed One~teaches it?"~ The Tathagata having given his consent,
 68  13, 51|           wage his wars. Does the Tathagata who teaches kindness~without
 69  13, 51|   criminal? and further, does the Tathagata declare that it is~wrong
 70  13, 51|        and our property? Does the Tathagata teach the doctrine of a~
 71  13, 51|          what is my own? Does the Tathagata maintain that all~strife,
 72  13, 51|       Blessed One continued: "The Tathagata teaches that all warfare~
 73  13, 51|          is the cause of war. The Tathagata teaches a complete~surrender
 74  13, 51|          soldier of~truth and the Tathagata will bless thee."~ When
 75  13, 51|       indeed, art the Buddha,~the Tathagata, the Holy One. Thou art
 76  13, 52|        not speak truly of me. The Tathagata teaches~that there is no
 77  13, 52|            On the other hand, the Tathagata teaches that there is mind.
 78  13, 52|    officer said: "Does, then, the Tathagata maintain that two~things
 79  13, 53|         with the~teachings of the Tathagata, Kutadanta continued: "Thou
 80  13, 53|           heat of the day, so the Tathagata comes to blow over~the minds
 81  13, 53|          another it is not."~ The Tathagata asked again: "Has the time
 82  13, 53|       continuity only?" asked the~Tathagata. "Not only by continuity,"

121  16, 94|   ANNOUNCES HIS DEATH~ ~ SAID the Tathagata to Ananda: "In former years,
122  16, 94|           final extinction of the~Tathagata shall take place before
123  16, 94|           Ananda, beseech not the Tathagata!"~ And again, a second time,
124  16, 94|       Ananda in the~wisdom of the Tathagata, why, then, Ananda, dost
125  16, 94|     Ananda, dost thou trouble the~Tathagata even until the third time?
126  16, 94|    rejected, and abandoned by the Tathagata."~ And the Blessed One said
127  16, 94|           final extinction of the Tathagata will take~place before long.
128  17, 95|      great might and power of the~Tathagata!"~ Ananda brought the water
129  17, 95|           the~other one." And the Tathagata's body appeared shining
130  17, 95|          two occasions on which a~Tathagata's appearance becomes clear
