1 1| others. As~regards this external observance, this commandment
2 1| were fulfilled by doing no external [manual] work whatever,
3 1| for it is altogether an external matter, like~other ordinances
4 1| the stove and do no rough~[external] work, or deck ourselves
5 1| thereby, not because of the external work, but because of~the
6 1| persons, and the~entire external order of worship have been
7 1| called; and not only is the~external act forbidden, but also
8 1| had done or not done the external act. Therefore God~has added
9 3| were no~prayers. For such external matters, when they are properly
10 3| Lord's~Supper appointed as external signs, effect, so much also
11 4| clamoring that Baptism is an external thing, and~that external
12 4| external thing, and~that external things are of no benefit.
13 4| let it be ever so much an~external thing here stand God's Word
14 4| that the Sacraments and all external things~which God ordains
15 4| according to~the coarse, external mask, as we regard the shell
16 4| saves,~and that works and external things avail nothing, we
17 4| and proposes to us this~external thing wherein we may apprehend
18 4| bound though it be something external. Yea, it shall and~must
19 4| shall and~must be something external, that it may be apprehended
20 4| the~entire Gospel is an external, verbal preaching. In short,
21 4| proposes to work through such external ordinances.~Wherever, therefore,
22 4| though it be an~entirely external thing like the commandment,
23 5| etc., may indeed be an~external preparation and discipline
