At the Fourth Œcumenical Synod in Chalcedon (451), as witnessed by the Acts of the Synod, when the epistle of St. Leo the Pope against the teaching of the Monophysites was read, the honorable Bishops exclaimed: “This is the Faith of the Fathers, this is the Faith of the Apostles.... This is the way the Orthodox (hoi orthodoxoi) believe. Anathema to those who do not believe in this way.... We, the Orthodox, think thus....” [16]
