V.E. And human barriers can force one to be quiet; but they can’t change God’s providence for His Church. So much is attempted. Peter I struggled with the Church with Her hierarchical stem. His anti-church reforms, which I advise to not simply search in books for them, but open the “History of Peter” by Pushkin. There in detail can be clearly seen the theme and the instructions leading towards the reforms of 1721. There it has the prohibitions of the hierarchy to receive complaints from the laity, for them to take part in the needs of their own flock. These prohibitions resulted in the hierarchy ceasing to have concern for the people. There, is the prohibition of the priests to teach the laity in their homes and the priests were unable to call anyone neither to peace, nor to repentance, nor to piety and thus everything was not in order. And there is, incidentally, the eradication of any respect for God’s chosen ones who have already passed away, in other words the Saints. Thus, “there is no investigating of the coffin of the unknown,” and I am not even speaking about the prohibition to give alms, and all that lead into the government framework. About that there is nothing to say. But there is the struggle with definite church service subjected to eradication. This service is the foolishness of Christ’s joy [the Russian tradition of the Holy Fool].
