Part, Chapter

 1    2, 1 |          the words "by the night" mean Muhammad's veiling,~Namely,
 2    2, 14|        see him engaged in such a, mean occupation. The saint at
 3    2, 16|          of keeping to the golden mean; and reminding him that
 4    2, 16|           on the grounds that the mean is relative, what is excess
 5    2, 16|          is its own evidence.~The mean is relative.~ ~~He said, "
 6    2, 16|            Though the path of the mean is wisdom,~Yet is this same
 7    2, 16|          wisdom,~Yet is this same mean also relative.~The water
 8    2, 16|         or three, he observes the mean.~But if he eat all four
 9    2, 16|          four he transgresses the mean,~A very slave to greed,
10    2, 16|          eat six, he observes the mean.~If I have an appetite for
11    2, 17| respectively. Now all these words mean one and the same thing,
12    4, 1 |        not ignorant nor absent, O mean one. ~The carnal soul is
13    4, 2 |     mankind is prone to run after mean earthly objects, and to
14    5, 3 |           original state, not the mean states,~For these mean states
15    5, 3 |        the mean states,~For these mean states remove you from your
16    5, 3 |        from your origin.~As these mean states increase, union recedes;~
17    6, 3 |       waste of time. Say what you mean by all these negations."
