 1   1   |           According to the Epic, Dasa-ratha king of the Kosalas had
 2   1, 1|         rich in holy Vedic lore,~Dasa-ratha ruled his empire in the
 3   1, 1|        father of the human race,~Dasa-ratha ruled his people with a
 4   1, 1|       name,--~Ruled by righteous Dasa-ratha won a world-embracing fame,~
 5   1, 1|          in fame,~Loved of royal Dasa-ratha to his happy mansion came,~
 6   1, 2|          it shewn to royal Rama, Dasa-ratha's righteous son,"~"This
 7   1, 2|      thought or fancy wrought by Dasa-ratha's son,~And the proud and
 8   1, 2|        done,~They shall speak to Dasa-ratha, Sita is by valour won,~
 9   1, 3|          hall.~Where the ancient Dasa-ratha sat with peers and courtiers
10   1, 3|          peer and holy Brahman: "Dasa-ratha's will be done!"~Spake the
11   1, 4|        IV - MEETING OF JANAK AND DASA-RATHA~On Ayodhya's tower and turret
12   1, 4|         the golden morning woke,~Dasa-ratha girt by courtiers thus to
13   1, 4|        priest and proud retainer Dasa-ratha led the way,~Glittering
14   1, 4|        and peer,~Greeted ancient Dasa-ratha in his accents soft and
15   1, 4|       his royal love responding, Dasa-ratha made reply:~"Gift betokens
16   1, 4|         with a grateful pleasure Dasa-ratha's answer heard,~And the
17   1, 5|          heroic princes now with Dasa-ratha stayed~In Mithila's ancient
18   1, 5|          s line,~On the day that Dasa-ratha made his gifts of gold and
19   1, 5|        his grace,~And he asks if Dasa-ratha prospers in his wonted health,~
20   1, 5|        sons and with his kinsmen Dasa-ratha makes his stay,~Hence in
21   1, 5|          and duly-greeted guest,~Dasa-ratha on his brother choicest
22   1, 5|        Vasishtha wise and good:~"Dasa-ratha waits expectant with each
23   1, 5|        the rest~Let the peerless Dasa-ratha, proud Kosala's king of
24   1, 6|        beauteous daughter facing Dasa-ratha's soil,~Spake with father'
25   1, 7|          famed and fair Ayodhya, Dasa-ratha held his way,~And they reached
26   1, 7|          by his priests of fame,~Dasa-ratha, with the princes to his
27   2, 1|         fair,~Hailed the sons of Dasa-ratha with a grandsire's loving
28   2, 1|        and light,~Were a part of Dasa-ratha like his hands and arms
29   2, 1|         sought his people's love~Dasa-ratha marked his Rama with each
30   2, 1|       his path serene and clear,~Dasa-ratha called his Council, summoned
31   2, 1|          near relations, ancient Dasa-ratha meant,~Message of the proud
32   2, 1|         and high,~And on monarch Dasa-ratha eager turned his anxious
33   2, 1|         from the town and plain,~Dasa-ratha shone like INDRA girt by
34   2, 2|         voice of pealing thunder Dasa-ratha spake to all,~To the princes
35   2, 2|          holy lore,~Rama follows Dasa-ratha, but in virtues stands before!~
36   2, 2|         see him Heir and Regent, Dasa-ratha, ancient lord,~For his heart
37   2, 3|        hall,~Praised the monarch Dasa-ratha, regent Rama young and tall:~"
38   2, 3|         tall:~"Great and good is Dasa-ratha born of Raghu's royal race,~
39   2, 3|        us all,~Long live ancient Dasa-ratha king of Raghu's royal race,~
40   2, 5|       rite arranged and ordered, Dasa-ratha homeward came,~To the fairest
41   2, 5| love-beguiled:~"Thou hast given, Dasa-ratha, troth and word and royal
42   2, 5|       ever truthful in his word,~Dasa-ratha grants my prayer, Spirits
43   2, 6|          foolish in his dotapre, Dasa-ratha holds his sway,~Shall I
44   2, 6|          banished son,~How shall Dasa-ratha answer for the impious action
45   2, 6|     known to nations,--righteous Dasa-ratha lied,~And a trusting, cheated
46   3   |          on the ancient heart of Dasa-ratha. The feeble old king pined
47   3, 1|     blessings pray,~To my father Dasa-ratha honour and obeisance pay,~
48   3, 4|    righteous Rama stray,~Such is Dasa-ratha's mandate, haste thee Rama
49   3, 4|          race,~Meanwhile ancient Dasa-ratha from his palace chamber
50   3, 4|    much-enduring heart,~Heed not Dasa-ratha's mandate, stop not for
51   3, 4|          drew,~And they spake to Dasa-ratha: "Follow not thy banished
52   3, 4|          till his task is done!"~Dasa-ratha, faint and feeble, listened
53   3, 6|      holy might:~"We are sons of Dasa-ratha and to thee our homage bring,~
54   3, 8|    banished Rama's message gave,~Dasa-ratha's heart was shadowed by
55   3, 8|      gloom of midnight deepened, Dasa-ratha sinking fast,~To Kausalya
56   3, 8|    stainless boy whose red blood Dasa-ratha's hands defiled!~And the
57   3, 8|          a Khsatra warrior born,~Dasa-ratha stands before thee by a
58   3, 8|        Sorrow for a son beloved, Dasa-ratha, thou shalt know!~See the
59   3, 8|          in fulness of the time,~Dasa-ratha's death in anguish cleanses
60   3, 8|        death in anguish cleanses Dasa-ratha's crime!'~Spake the old
61   4, 2|       that fell,~And the ancient Dasa-ratha, glorious still in regal
62   4, 2|         weeping, Bharat answered Dasa-ratha's eldest son,~"Dasa-ratha
63   4, 2|        Dasa-ratha's eldest son,~"Dasa-ratha walks the bright sky, for
64   4, 2|         kindness done,~Rule o'er Dasa-ratha's empire, Dasa-ratha's eldest
65   4, 2|          er Dasa-ratha's empire, Dasa-ratha's eldest son,~Weeping queens
66   4, 2|          dwell,~So spake saintly Dasa-ratha in Ayodhya's palace hall,~
67   4, 4|      lord of Raghu's royal race?~Dasa-ratha claims no duty, and this
68   4, 4|         realm thou art the lord,~Dasa-ratha is departed, gone where
69   5, 1|  Southern clime!~"Eldest born of Dasa-ratha, long and far hath Rama
70   5, 4|          s mother Queen Kaikeyi, Dasa-ratha's royal spouse,~Deep in
71   6, 1|         the Raksha maiden told:~"Dasa-ratha of Ayodhya ruled with INDRA'
72   6, 6|     happy time,~Till the monarch Dasa-ratha,-for his days were almost
73   7, 1|          bold:~"Mark the sons of Dasa-ratha banished from their royal
74   7, 1|          roam,~Great was monarch Dasa-ratha famed for sacrifice divine,~
75   8, 2|      Listen, Lady, to my story;--Dasa-ratha famed in war,~Rich in steeds
76   8, 2|      Rama loved his subject men!~Dasa-ratha, promise -fettered, then
77   9, 6|         but fiery foeman is this Dasa-ratha's son,~Listen to my voice
