17. At the invitation of Buddha's son, Suddhodana gave this message to his envoys Khandaka and Udayin, 'Thy father and mother, some noble ladies, headed by Yasodrih, and this my young son have come in the hope of seeing thee, under the idea that thou art devoted to the world's salvation; what shall I tell them?' They two went, and reverentially saluting the Buddha in the vihara called Venu, they told him the message with their eyes filled with tears.
