See it     as a bubble,
see it     as a mirage:
one who regards the world this way
the King of Death doesn't see.

 




170: The Sutta Nipata (V.15) reports a conversation between the Buddha and the brahman Mogharaja with a point similar to that of this verse:

Mogharaja:
In what way does one view the world
so as not to be seen
    by Death's king?

The Buddha:
View the world, Mogharaja,
        as void --
always mindful
to have removed any view
        about self.
This way one is above & beyond death.
This is the way one views the world
so as not to be seen
    by Death's king.
