THE SPLITTING OF THE MOON IN TWO PIECES

389.Narrated Anas bin Malik (Allah be pleased with him): The people of Mecca asked Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) to show them a miracle. So he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hira mountain 35)

This means that each of the two parts of the moon was on the either side of the mountain of Hira.
