Chapter

 1 II    |   instructed us what we should pray for. He who made us to live,
 2 II    |        live, taught us also to pray, with that same benignity,
 3 II    |      His own mouth? So that to pray otherwise than He taught
 4 III   |   therefore, brethren beloved, pray as God our Teacher has taught
 5 IV    |    speech and petition when we pray be under discipline, observing
 6 IV    |   fitting to the modest man to pray with moderated petitions.
 7 IV    |      the Lord has bidden us to pray in secret--in hidden and
 8 VI    |     went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and
 9 VII   |        teaching what we should pray. "Thus," says He, "pray
10 VII   |        pray. "Thus," says He, "pray ye:--"Our Father, which
11 VIII  |        as for one who prays to pray for himself alone. For we
12 VIII  |        and common; and when we pray, we pray not for one, but
13 VIII  |   common; and when we pray, we pray not for one, but for the
14 VIII  |    willed that one should thus pray for all, even as He Himself
15 VIII  |     not yet taught them how to pray. And therefore, as they
16 IX    |        this manner," says He, "pray ye: Our Father, which art
17 X     |         we Christians, when we pray, say Our Father; because
18 XI    |       that He has wished us to pray in the sight of God in such
19 XI    | Himself had allowed us thus to pray! We ought then, beloved
20 XII   |       to be. And this we daily pray for; for we have need of
21 XII   |      the Spirit of our God. We pray that this sanctification
22 XIII  |     and never ceases to be? We pray that our kingdom, which
23 XIII  |        to call God our Father, pray also that God's kingdom
24 XIV   |       s will in all things, we pray and ask that God's will
25 XVI   |    both in body and spirit--we pray that God's will may be done.
26 XVII  |       love our enemies, and to pray even for those who persecute
27 XVII  |        just and the unjust, so pray and ask by the admonition
28 XVIII |   other hand, we must fear and pray lest any one who, being
29 XX    | himself, let him thus learn to pray, and know, from the character
30 XXII  |    because He who taught us to pray for our debts and sins,
31 XXVI  |     humility, said, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into

33 XXIX  |     that the Lord taught us to pray, Himself praying frequently

35 XXIX  |     much more ought sinners to pray; and if He prayed continually,
36 XXX   |    should He who was guiltless pray on His own behalf?--but
37 XXX   |      for all, saying, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for
38 XXXI  |       enemy; this is, when you pray to God, to offend the majesty
39 XXXII |     XXXII.~Moreover, those who pray should not come to God with
40 XXXIII|       God. For when thou didst pray, and Sarah, I did bring
41 XXXV  |       number. For we must also pray in the morning, that the
42 XXXV  |      day, of necessity we must pray again. For since Christ
43 XXXV  |    worldly day depart, when we pray and ask that light may return
44 XXXV  |     may return to us again, we pray for the advent of Christ,
45 XXXV  |       in petitions, and should pray; and when, by the law of
46 XXXV  | darkness of night to those who pray, because the children of
47 XXXVI |      daylight. Since we are to pray and give thanks to God for
48 XXXVI |     cease in this life also to pray and give thanks.~
