Chapter

 1 I    |             so that by almsgiving we may wash away whatever foulness
 2 II   |   admonishing, and showing whence we may be clean and purged, He
 3 II   |           baptism, have become foul, may once more be cleansed.~
 4 V    |            stoppeth his ears that he may not hear the weak, he also
 5 IX   |            your liberal dealing, you may perchance be reduced to
 6 IX   | righteousness, that in all things ye may be enriched." And again: "
 7 XI   |             your patrimony perchance may fall short, if you should
 8 XIII |              rich in this world, you may become poor to God? Divide
 9 XIII |            possessions, that He also may make you a fellow-heir with
10 XIV  |           the shame of thy nakedness may not appear in thee; and
11 XIV  |              tried by fire; that you may be pure gold, with your
12 XIV  |              frightful and unseemly, may be clothed with the white
13 XIV  |         Christ's eye-salve, that you may be able to attain to see
14 XV   |          behoved to receive, that we may know thence what punishment,
15 XV   |          works. And in order that we may understand that their labours
16 XV   |            offerings of God, that it may be more abundantly evident
17 XVII |          blood. So that from this it may appear how much he sins
18 XVIII|             your righteous works you may commend your children to
19 XXI  |           givers, in order that they may please the higher classes;
20 XXII |            fruit of their salvation, may be the more ashamed, and
21 XXII |            of dishonour and disgrace may the more strike upon their
22 XXIII|       consideration for his brother, may yet be moved by contemplation
23 XXIII|            suffering and in poverty, may yet think of his Lord, who
24 XXIV |            earthly garments, that we may receive heavenly raiment;
25 XXIV |         drink of this world, that we may come with Abraham, and Isaac,
26 XXIV |             heavenlybanquet. That we may not reap little, let us
