1 1 | agrees with the truth of things, there springs up some falsehood; 2 1 | the truth concerning these things, and some distort it to 3 1 | set purpose doubt even of things which are palpably evident. 4 2 | belief; but to disbelieve things which are not deserving 5 2 | ascribing the cause of all things to God, to keep steadily 6 2 | blasphemy against sacred things: for, that they do not speak 7 2 | relatively to the order of things now obtaining among us, 8 2 | easy to know beforehand things that have not yet come into 9 2 | into existence, and to know things which have been dissolved.~ 10 4 | other sad cause or state of things are deprived of burial, 11 4 | barbarians: and from these things they establish, as they 12 5 | the animal, but that some things no sooner come into contact 13 6 | fact, which any one calling things by their right names would 14 6 | death follows from these things, if, owing to a too keen 15 6 | very plain that none of the things contrary to nature can be 16 7 | nourishment coming from these things (let it be so called, as 17 7 | them, whereas no one of the things mentioned is such a part, 18 7 | nourished then require the things they once required, seeing 19 7 | the need also of those things by which they were nourished 20 8 | those who dare to say such things from regaling themselves 21 9 | IMPOTENCY.~ As there are many things of more importance to the 22 9 | level the capabilities of things which are altogether different, 23 10| that are reckoned among the things that have existence, is 24 11| order, as being in those things and along with those things 25 11| things and along with those things which it informs us of; 26 12| extinguished. For to creeping things, I suppose, and birds, and 27 13| ARGUMENT.~ Confident of these things, no less than of those which 28 13| preservation and safeguard of the things given by Him as suitable 29 13| which is manifest in all things, he might continue always 30 14| the natural notion; or to things which naturally follow from 31 14| natural sequence. And in these things we must observe order, showing 32 14| it, nor to confound the things arranged by nature and distinguished 33 15| the whole series of these things must be referred to some 34 15| whole being, whether of the things which spring from the soul 35 15| exactly the same, if all those things of which the being consists 36 15| men for the discernment of things which are perceived by the 37 15| follows that, since those things continue for the sake of 38 15| judgment given for these things should also continue. But 39 16| because the nature also of the things that continue is not one. 40 16| one. But if each of these things belongs to man by nature, 48 19| them in doubting of the things to which their opinions 49 19| Maker presides over the things which He Himself has made, 50 19| has made, inspecting all things whatsoever which exist, 51 19| blasphemy, despises divine things, breaks the laws, commits 52 20| which practised each of the things in life on which the judgment 53 21| by itself in respect of things towards which in its own 54 21| actions of life, in which things, and in connection with 55 21| judged in respect of those things which the body is the first 56 21| in actions with a view to things Which it wants; and that 57 21| shall not assert that these things belong to the soul, if we 58 21| it can never desire those things which it does not in the 59 21| impulse towards any of those things which it is not at all fitted 60 22| of practical wisdom, when things are not proposed to it which 61 22| or may not be done, nor things to be chosen or avoided, 62 22| towards the use of their own things, or abstinence from those 63 22| since the use of those things which are according to nature, 64 22| constituted as to use any things or any single thing, and 65 23| on souls to abstain from things which have no relation to 66 23| for they do not need those things, through the need of which, 67 24| signify that each of those things which are constituted by 68 24| men, and testified by the things that pass before our eyes. 69 24| another; and again, the things which spring out of the 70 24| consist in the enjoyment of things which nourish or delight 71 25| passionately and too violently by things below, pass through life
