The Good News is preached to the poor (Lk. 7,22)
The choice to help the poor and promote justice made by men and women religious in recent years occupies an important place in the visibility of the mission. Without trying to cover up the mistakes we have made, we can say that this choice has been put into practice with complete generosity and that it has been met by signs of evangelical generosity, so that in many parts of our big cities a new face has been created for the consecrated life and, therefore, for the Church.
We are aware that in the contexts of poverty and marginalization in which we work many people are not believers, and often there is much work of ‘humanization’ to do before we reach the point of making a real announcement. We must therefore ask for time and a great deal of patience, but also for reflection and discernment in order to learn the language and find the right moment to announce the Good News of Jesus (cf. Ecclesia in America, no. 67).
