Ideas for reflection - evaluation of the theme:
" the Missio ad gentes in the life of our Institutes "
In the light of the previous clarification, if accepted, I would pint
out now several issues with some questions.
Approach to the missio ad gentes on the part of your Order
One
can qualify as great, medium, modest, insufficient the availability to missio
ad gentes work. Which of these adjectives fits for your Order ?
In the
rather long existence of our Orders, have there been different approaches
to missio ad gentes or different ways of understanding and
referring to it ? Which ?
What
influence has the commitment to missio ad gentes over the Orders
today ?
Missio ad gentes and specific charism
What
influence had the missio ad gentes activity in the elaboration of the
Orders’ specific charism, throughout its history ?
What
missionary style derives from the Order specific charism ? Is it used in
all the missio ad gentes ? What difficulties have been met with ?
More
specifically, what difficulties do you find in the relation with the
local Church in mission ad gentes territories ? Do they understand
and respect your charism ?
Where
the Order has been called to actualise the " plantatio
Ecclesiae " did the religious identity suffer from it ( e.g.
was there a levelling of the religious, transformed like diocesan
priests.)
Our
Orders include many non ordained brothers. What space is left to them in
the mission ad gentes ? Do they find ways to speak of their
identity ? Do the Young Churches look on them as second rank religious ?
What
pastoral or diaconal activities fit your charism better in the missio
ad gentes ? Can you easily assume it or are you obliged to renounce
to it and to assume ordinary pastoral duties, even less compatible with
your charism ?
How
should we assess the contributions of different cultures to the charism
of the Order ? To what extent can we accept different interpretations /
updating of the charism on behalf of the different cultures ?
Missio ad gentes and Community life
Community
dimension is particularly important in our Orders. Does the missio ad
gentes allow, encourage or damage it ?
The
way the values of " live in brotherhood " are perceived
change from one culture to another. What difficulties are created in
different missions in realising this value ? Is there a pluralism in the
way of understanding brotherhood. Is it positive or negative ?
Vita
Consecrata insists on saying fraternal life itself is a form of
evangelization. It should be true for our Orders above all. Is such form
of evangelization feasible or illusory , or too idealistic ? Are there
interesting experiences in this field ?
One
particular activity that characterise our presence in the missio ad
gentes territory and that is linked to our fraternal style is
interreligious dialogue. What are the possibilities in that field ?
Missio ad gentes and formation.
The
formation of those destined to the mission ad gentes is important.
What initiatives have been taken in this regard in our Orders ? What
difficulties they meet with ?
In
realising the Plantatio Ordinis in the mission ad gentes
territories what have been the main difficulties ?
When
leadership in a given territory is transferred from the missionaries to
the local people, what are the problems arising ? How are they confronted
?
The
brothers, devoted to mission ad gentes need an adequate period for
" recharging " or ongoing formation. Is such a moment
provided ? What programme is offered them? Are there interesting ongoing
formation experiences for missionaries ?
