Congregation for the Causes of
Saints
Art. 71 — The Congregation for the Causes of Saints deals with
everything which, according to the established way, leads to the canonization
of the servants of God.
Art. 72 — § 1. With special norms and timely advice, it assists
diocesan bishops, who have competence to instruct the cause.

whether everything required is present for a favorable recommendation to be
submitted to the Supreme Pontiff, according to the previously established
classification of causes.
Art. 73 — The Congregation also is competent to examine what is
necessary for the granting of the title of doctor to saints, after having
received the recommendation of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
concerning outstanding teaching.
Art. 74 — Moreover, it has competence to decide everything concerning
the authentication of holy relics and their preservation.
