28. We read in the lives of Our PredecessorsZacharias and Paschal, by the renownedAnastasius, that several guesthouses were builtnear the church on the Vatican, to welcome and refreshpilgrims who had come to visit the tombs of the Apostles. These buildings, either in the passage of time or by humanharm have long been destroyed. But the Romans have built others in differentparts of the city which are always open to pilgrims who arrive in this city to reverence the tombs of the blessedapostles and obtain the treasures of indulgencesespecially in a holyyear of Jubilee, to supply in fullmeasure the necessities both for bodilynourishment and spiritualrefreshment with the aid of uprightpriests. These are the matters We judged We should indicate to you. And with the fullbenevolence of Our spirit We confer on you and on your whole flock the ApostolicBlessing.

Given at Castelgandolfo on the 26th of June 1749 in the ninth year of Our Pontificate.
