10. Jerome also insists on the supereminent authority of Scripture.
When controversy arose he had recourse to the Bible as a storehouse of
arguments, and he used its testimony as a weapon for refuting his adversaries' arguments,
because he held that the Bible's witness afforded solid and irrefutable
arguments. Thus, when Helvidius denied the perpetual virginity of the Mother of
God, Jerome was content simply to reply:
