The Brothers and Sisters
perpetually on the second, fourth and sixth ferias, and on the Sabbath, must
abstain from flesh meat - except on the feast of the Nativity of our Lord. And
from the feast of All Saints unto the Resurrection of our Lord, every fourth
and sixth feria they shall be bound to fast; and in like manner, every sixth
feria of the whole year. Also from the feast of St. Martin unto the
Nativity of our Lord let them fast every day; adjoining there unto the Lent of
the Universal Church, which, however, they must begin from Quinquagesima. But
on those days on which they are not bound to fast they shall eat only twice a
day; except that from the Feast of Easter until the month of October those who
are employed in hard or painful labour may eat three times in the day - the
days of fast always excepted. Travellers, however, and infirm and weak persons,
in time of necessity are exempt from the fast.
