The Brothers and Sisters must in
the Church observe silence especially when Mass is celebrated, or the word of
God proposed. But in other places let them observe what their Superiors shall
have ordained concerning silence. They ought every day, in the evening, between
themselves and God, to think over what they have done, said, or thought. And
every day (if they can commodiously) they ought to hear Mass. And, they ought
to procure that they have a religious who on certain days may propose to them
the Word of God, and induce them to penance and virtues.
They who by themselves know how to
perform the canonical Hours ought to fulfil the Canonical Hours according to
the usage of the Holy Roman Church. But they who do not know how to receive the
Canonical Hours, let them say twelve " Pater Nosters " for
Matins, and for each of the other hours seven, adding " Gloria Patri "
at the end of every "Pater Noster"; adding also the " Credo,"
and the psalm " Miserere mei Deus " at the beginning of
Prime and Compline and who know not these aforesaid things must say three times
" Pater Noster " for penance. And as often as they take
dinner or meals they ought to give thanks to God. But of sacramental Confession
and receiving the Holy Communion they shall observe the ordinance of Pope
Nicholas IV, that thrice in the year they confess and communicate; or else
they shall keep the statutes of their Superiors ordained hereupon.
