CHAPTER IX
OF THE OFFICES FOR THE DEAD

After a Brother or Sister shall have departed out of this world, the Minister or Mother shall take care that their obsequies be solemnly celebrated, at which all the Brothers or Sisters of the house wherein the death took place ought to be personally present, nor ought they to depart until the body be consigned to the grave. And for the soul of every one departed, within eight days every priest shall be bound to say one Mass, and they who know the psalter, fifty psalms; and they who now not the psalter, fifty " Pater Nosters "; and at the end of every one, " Requiem Aeternam." And at the end of every year, or within every year, every priest ought to say three Masses for the dead, those who know the psalter, one psalter; but those who know not the psalter, a hundred " Pater Nosters ," with " Requiem Aeternam " at the end of every one. And concerning these Offices for the Dead and other Divine Offices in this present Rule annexed, the care is imposed on the Ministers and Mothers that they be faithfully discharged.
