3.2. Recognizing one’s creaturehood

To accept and be accepted means first of all not to expect to eliminate one’s negative component, not presume to eliminate it with one’s own powers, from a believing point of view, and much less think that one can plan to resolve every problem in a short time, to the point of no longer noticing any call or stimulus from one’s immature tendency. These would all be unrealistic expectations, that could never be answered in reality.

The acceptance model stresses the need to recognize in one’s limitations the sign of an existential limitation, of one’s creaturehood, something that is destined to remain forever and that there’s be no sense in fighting with the intention and certainty of eradicating it. On the more properly believing  level, the limitation can even be seen as that which allows one to recover one’s identity, as that through which the mystery of one’s ego passes; but it is also that which puts me on my knees and “forces” me to beg God to be merciful to me a sinner; finally, the limitation enables me to live and coexist with other’s limitations, without ever being scandalized, without considering myself superior to anyone, without becoming strict and acting “tough” in face of a brother’s (or sister’s) weakness.
