Chapter

 1 8 |        Whence it happened that Joseph brought his rod along with
 2 8 |    spoke to thee. Now that was Joseph's rod; and because he was
 3 8 |      loud voice, saying: Come, Joseph, and receive thy rod; for
 4 8 |      are waiting for thee. And Joseph came up trembling, because
 5 8 |        thine old age, O father Joseph, seeing that God hath shown
 6 8 |       hast been chosen by God; Joseph began bashfully to address
 7 8 |  priest said to him: Remember, Joseph, how Dathan and Abiron and
 8 8 |      is commanded thee by God. Joseph answered him: I indeed do
 9 8 |       joined in marriage.~Then Joseph received Mary, with the
10 8 |     who were to be with her in Joseph's house. These virgins were
11 10|       these things were doing, Joseph was occupied with his work,
12 10|    were with Mary said to him: Joseph, what art thou saying? We
13 10|        her pregnant. Then said Joseph: Why do you mislead me,
14 11|       to him in sleep, saying: Joseph, thou son of David, fear
15 11|    people from their sins. And Joseph, rising from his sleep,
16 12|       Mary was with child. And Joseph was seized by the officers
17 12| remained in her virginity. And Joseph vowed, and swore that he
18 12|   hands of an angel. And again Joseph was summoned to the altar,
19 12|     his face. When, therefore, Joseph had drunk in safety, and
20 12|    require of thee, that since Joseph is pure regarding thee,
21 13|     necessary, therefore, that Joseph should enrol with the blessed
22 13|        David. When, therefore, Joseph and the blessed Mary were
23 13|        Bethlehem, Mary said to Joseph: I see two peoples before
24 13|       the other rejoicing. And Joseph answered: Sit still on thy
25 13|     white raiment, who-said to Joseph: Why didst thou say that
26 13|       of the Lord was at hand, Joseph had gone away to seek midwives.
27 13|     she had brought forth. And Joseph said to the blessed Mary:
28 13|    heard this, she smiled; and Joseph said to her: Do not smile;
29 14|    manifest. In the same place Joseph remained with Mary three
30 15|      to the law of Moses, then Joseph took the infant to the temple
31 16|        to the blessed Mary and Joseph. And to the child Himself
32 17|       day before this was done Joseph was warned in his sleep
33 17|     the way of the desert. And Joseph went according to the saying
34 18|     bosom. And there were with Joseph three boys, and with Mary
35 18|      hurt no man. But Mary and Joseph were very much afraid lest
36 19|        in the desert. Wherever Joseph and the blessed Mary went,
37 20|       a palm tree, she said to Joseph: Let me rest a little under
38 20|        the shade of this tree. Joseph therefore made haste, and
39 20|     full of fruit, and said to Joseph: I wish it were possible
40 20|        fruit of this palm. And Joseph said to her: I wonder that
41 22|    were goingon their journey, Joseph said to Jesus: Lord, it
42 22|   Jesus said to him: Fear not, Joseph; I will shorten the way
43 25|    long time the angel said to Joseph: Return to the land of Judah,
44 26|     cried out against Mary and Joseph, saying to them: Your son
45 26|       and he is dead. And when Joseph and Mary heard this, they
46 26|      together of the Jews. But Joseph said privately to Mary:
47 27|     Him doing this, he said to Joseph: Joseph, dost thou not see
48 27|       this, he said to Joseph: Joseph, dost thou not see the child
49 27|     sparrows of clay. And when Joseph heard this, he reproved
50 27|       do? And when Jesus heard Joseph, He struck His hands together,
51 27|     them that Jesus the son of Joseph had done great signs and
52 28|      temple, who had come with Joseph, holding his rod in his
53 29|               Chapter 29.~Then Joseph trembled, and took hold
54 29|        of the dead boy came to Joseph, and said to him: Take away
55 29|   bless, and not to curse. And Joseph came up to Jesus, and admonished
56 29|   Jesus answered and said unto Joseph: No one is a wise son but
57 29|      Jesus, and accused him to Joseph. When Joseph saw this, he
58 29|    accused him to Joseph. When Joseph saw this, he was in great
59 30| without fear, to speak against Joseph. And he said: Dost thou
60 30| instructed in Jewish learning. Joseph, on the other hand, said
61 31|     doctor of the law, said to Joseph and Mary: Give me the boy,
62 31| letters and instruct him. Then Joseph and Mary, soothing Jesus,
63 32|        32.~After these things, Joseph and Mary departed thence
64 32|        this, cried out against Joseph and Mary, saying: Your son
65 32|     answered them nothing. And Joseph and Mary came in haste to
66 32|     that had been wrought. And Joseph and Mary departed thence
67 37|                Chapter 37.~Now Joseph was a carpenter, and used
68 37|     couch six cubits long. And Joseph commanded his servant to
69 37|    shorter than the other. And Joseph was in perplexity, and began
70 37|       to make them equal. Then Joseph did what he was bid, for
71 37|        whatever He wished. And Joseph took hold of the ends of
72 37|     longer one. And He said to Joseph: Go and work, and do what
73 37|       hast promised to do. And Joseph did what he had promised. ~
74 38|       pass a second time, that Joseph and Mary were asked by the
75 38|       again to His mother. And Joseph, being afraid, called Mary
76 39|        the Jews asked Mary and Joseph a third time to coax Him
77 39|   another master to learn. And Joseph and Mary, fearing the people,
78 39|    into astonishment. And when Joseph heard of this, he came running
79 40| Chapter 40.~After these things Joseph departed thence with Mary
80 40|        in the city a man named Joseph, exceedingly rich. But he
81 40|       the dead man, He said to Joseph: Why dost thou not afford
82 40|        called by thy name? And Joseph answered him: How have I
83 40|       from his couch. And when Joseph heard this, he went away
84 41|       is called Bethlehem; and Joseph lived with Mary in his own
85 41|     them. And on a certain day Joseph called to him his first-born
86 41|     James into the garden; but Joseph and Mary did not know this.
87 41|      and the serpent died. And Joseph and Mary did not know what
88 42|                Chapter 42.~And Joseph having come to a feast with
89 42|    feast with his sons, James, Joseph, and Judah, and Simeon and
90 42|       for refreshment, neither Joseph nor Mary, nor the sons of
91 42|      nor Mary, nor the sons of Joseph, His brothers, came. And,
