Canon 1454

One who has falsely accused someone of an offense, is to be punished with an appropriate penalty, not excluding a major excommunication, especially if the accused is a confessor, hierarch,

cleric, religious, member of a society of common life in the manner of religious, or a lay person appointed to an ecclesiastical

function (munus), with due regard for can. 731.
