Canon 1456

1. A confessor who has directly violated the seal of confession, is to be punished with a major excommunication, with due

regard for can. 728, 1, n. 1; but if he broke the seal in another manner, he is to be punished with an appropriate penalty.

2. One who has attempted in any way to gain information from

confession, or who has given such information to others, shall be

punished with a minor excommunication or suspension.
