Canon 98

With the consent of the synod of bishops of the patriarchal

Church and the prior assent of the Roman Pontiff, the patriarch

can enter into agreements with a civil authority which are not

contrary to the law established by the Apostolic See; the patriarch cannot put these same agreements into effect without

having obtained the approval of the Roman Pontiff.
