Canon 347

Doctrinal instruction should be directed so that the students,

understanding the general culture of the place and time and investigating the undertakings and accomplishments of the human

spirit, may acquire broad and solid instruction in the sacred

sciences, so that educated with a fuller understanding of the

faith and strengthened in the light of Christ the teacher, they

may be able more effectively to illuminate the people of their

time and to serve truth.
