Canon 439

1. Several monasteries sui iuris subject to the same eparchial

bishop may form a confederation with the written consent of the

eparchial bishop, who is also entitled to approve the statutes of

the confederation. 2. The confederation of several monasteries

sui iuris of different eparchies or of stauropegial monasteries

located within the territorial boundaries of a patriarchal Church

may be established after consultation with the eparchial bishops

who have an interest, with the consent of the patriarch, to whom

is also reserved the approval of the constitutions of the confederation. 3. In other instances, the Apostolic See is to be

approached for the establishment of a confederation.
