Canon 475

1. In each monastery, in accordance with the number of members,

several spiritual fathers and confessors shall be assigned by the

superior of the monastery, if it is the case of priest-monks of

the same monastery who have the faculty of administering the sacrament of penance; otherwise by the local hierarch, after he has

heard the superior of the monastery sui iuris, who before that

must consult with the interested community. 2. For monasteries

in which there are no priest-monks, the local hierarch shall designate in the same manner a priest who will regularly celebrate

the Divine Liturgy and preach the word of God in the monastery,

with due regard for can. 612, 2.
