Canon 522

1. In order that the novitiate be valid, it must be made in the

house in which the novitiate is located; in special cases and by

way of an exception, the candidate can, with the permission of

the superior general, given with the consent of the council, make

the novitiate in another house of the same order or congregation,

under the direction of an experienced member who takes the place

of the master of novices. 2. The major superior can permit a

group of novices to live for a certain period of time in another

house of the same order or congregation designated by him.
