Canon 606

1. Theologians with their deeper understanding of the mystery

of salvation and with their expertise in the sacred and related

sciences as well as in current problems, have the role and duty,

faithfully complying with the authentic magisterium of the

Church, and, of equal importance, utilizing their freedom, to illumine the faith of the Church, to defend it and to contribute to

doctrinal progress. 2. In the investigation of theological

truths and in giving expression to them they are to be concerned

for the building up of the faith community and are to cooperate

skillfully with the bishops in their teaching office. 3. Those

involved in theological studies in seminaries, universities and

faculties of studies should strive to cooperate with those well

versed in other fields of learning by sharing their insights and

resources.
