Canon 723

1. In virtue of his office and within his jurisdiction, in

addition to the local hierarch, the pastor and also the one who

takes the place of the pastor is endowed with the faculty of

administering the sacrament of penance. 2. In virtue of his

office every superior of an institute of consecrated life of

pontifical or patriarchal right, if he is a priest, is endowed

with the same faculty for the members of his own institute and

also for those who day and night remain in the religious house.
