Canon 782

1. Engagements, which praiseworthily precede marriage in the

ancient tradition of the Eastern Churches, are governed by the

particular law of each Church sui iuris. 2. From the promise

of marriage there does not arise an action to seek the celebration of marriage; however, there does arise an action for the

reparation of damages, if it is warranted.
