Canon 785

1. Pastors of souls are obliged according to the needs of the

times and place to prevent with suitable means every danger of an

invalid or illicit celebration of marriage, and thus, before the

marriage is celebrated, it must be established that nothing

stands in the way of its valid and licit celebration. 2. In

danger of death, if other means of proof cannot be obtained and

there are no contrary indications, the affirmation of the spouses

is sufficient, even under oath if the case warrants it, that they

have been baptized and that they are not held back by any impediment.
