Canon 789

Although the marriage can be entered validly with regard to other

matters, the priest, beyond the other cases defined by law, without the permission of the local hierarch, is not to bless: (1)

the marriage of transients; (2) a marriage which cannot be recognized or entered into according to the norms of civil law; (3)

a marriage of a person who is bound by natural obligations toward

a third party or toward children arising from a prior union with

that party; (4) a marriage of a minor child of a family whose

parents are unaware of or opposed to the marriage; (5) the marriage of one who is forbidden by an ecclesiastical sentence to

enter into a new marriage unless the person fulfills certain conditions; (6) a marriage of a person who has publicly rejected

the Catholic faith, even if that person did not become a member

of a non-Catholic Church or ecclesial communion; the local hierarch in this case will not grant permission unless the norms of

can. 814 are observed, making any necessary adaptations.
