Canon 837

1. For the valid celebration of marriage, it is necessary that

the parties be present at the same time and mutually manifest

marriage consent. 2. Marriage cannot be validly celebrated by

proxy unless the particular law of one's own Church sui iuris

establishes otherwise, in which case it must provide the conditions under which such a marriage may be celebrated.
