Canon 874

1. It is the right of the Church to possess its own cemeteries.

2. The Church is to have its own cemeteries whenever it can be

done, or at least a space in the civil cemeteries destined for

departed Christian faithful, and both should be blessed; if this

cannot be done, on the occasion of the funeral the grave of the

departed is to be blessed. 3. The departed are not to be buried in churches, any contrary customs to be reprobated, unless it

is the case of someone who was a patriarch, bishop or exarch.

4. Parishes, monasteries and other institutes of consecrated

life can have their own cemeteries.
