Canon 929

When the territory of a juridic person is divided in such a way

that either a part of it is united to another juridic person or a

distinct juridic person is established for the separated part, it

is the duty of the authority who is responsible for the division

to divide, in accordance with what is right and just, the goods

held in common which had been destined for the good of the whole

territory and the debts that had been contracted for the whole

territory, while respecting each and every obligation as well as

the wishes of pious founders or donors, legitimately acquired

rights and the statutes by which the juridic person is governed.
