Canon 947

1. If a group has the right of election to office, the election, unless the law provides otherwise, is not to be deferred

beyond three months of available time from receipt of the notice

of vacancy of the office; if this period of time has elapsed

without action, the authority having the right to confirm the

election or provide for the office successively is to make provision freely for the vacant office. 2. The competent authority can do the same thing if the group has lost its right to

elect in some other way.
