Canon 1040

Whenever ecclesiastical goods are alienated contrary to the prescriptions of canon law, but the alienation is civilly valid, the

authority superior to the one who carried out the alienation decides, after a thorough review of the situation, whether and what

type of action is to be taken to vindicate the rights of the

Church as well as by whom and against whom this action is to be

taken.
