Canon 1099

1. The eparchial bishop is to name the promoter of justice and

the defender of the bond; in non-eparchial tribunals they are to

be named according to the tribunal's statutes unless the law provides otherwise. 2. The promoter of justice and the defender

of the bond are to be members of the Christian faithful of unimpaired reputation who hold doctorates or at least licentiates in

Canon law and are proven in prudence and in zeal for justice.
