Canon 1289

If the parties neglect to prepare a defense brief within the time

available to them, or if they entrust themselves to the knowledge

and the conscience of the judge, the judge can pronounce sentence

at once after requesting the observations of the promoter of justice and of the defender of the bond when they are involved in

the trial, if the issue is plainly and fully known from the acts

and proofs.
