 1 Pref  |    put that in your head? you’ll say. The first thing was
 2 Pref  |   with solemn titles. No, you’ll meet with some so preposterously
 3 Praise|      lend me your ears, and I’ll tell you; not those ears,
 4 Praise|  obstinacy of scolding: but I’ll imitate those ancients who,
 5 Praise|       wise men and Thales, we’ll even call them morosophous,
 6 Praise|       the Muses’ good leave I’ll do my endeavor to satisfy
 7 Praise|  young again.~But perhaps you’ll say they are foolish and
 8 Praise|       of the others’ life, we’ll suppose it prattling. Add
 9 Praise|     and for the most part you’ll find them grown old before
10 Praise|   earth; wherein likewise you’ll find nothing frolic or fortunate
11 Praise|       But there are some, you’ll say, and those too none
12 Praise|    folly? And so, perhaps you’ll cry it is; and yet ’tis
13 Praise|      orator.~But counsel, you’ll say, is not of least concern
14 Praise|       consult historians, you’ll find no princes more pestilent
15 Praise|    wise man to a feast and he’ll spoil the company, either
16 Praise|     him out to dance, and you’ll swear “a cow would have
17 Praise| living in this world, and you’ll say this piece of wisdom
18 Praise|      of these Sileni, and you’ll find them quite other than
19 Praise|     philosophically spoken, I’ll make it plain to you “after
20 Praise|     say. Have patience, and I’ll show you what I drive at.
21 Praise|      But this is foolish, you’ll say; nor shall I deny it,
22 Praise|     wise man, and therefore I’ll proceed to some other advantages.~
23 Praise|      kind, unless perhaps you’ll think a man such because
24 Praise|    other mischiefs spring; we’ll suppose it devils, for so
25 Praise|    too, as I conceive them. I’ll tell you a thing, which
26 Praise|       your life, and then you’ll be sensible from how many
27 Praise|      the Muses’ good favor we’ll take this syllogism in pieces.
28 Praise|      with what solemnity they’ll be buried, and particularly
29 Praise|      man? Unless, perhaps you’ll say, men had better converse
30 Praise|  examine them narrowly, and I’ll be hanged if you find one
31 Praise|    with them.~But no man, you’ll say, ever sacrificed to
32 Praise|       of the common people. I’ll betake me to them that carry
33 Praise|   hold them so fast, but they’ll slip through with their
34 Praise|    can’t cast a mist?~But you’ll say, I jest. Nor are you
35 Praise|       anger these wasps, they’ll sufficiently revenge themselves
36 Praise|     for me to know, however I’ll venture at it by conjectures.
37 Praise|      their manner of life you’ll find them mere sots, as
38 Praise|       in by the same knot, we’ll suppose it a perfect knowledge
39 Praise|       only business. Here you’ll see decrepit old fellows
40 Praise|    highest to lowest, and you’ll find all things done by
41 Praise|       an end. And therefore I’ll even break off; and yet,
42 Praise|   credit among Christians. We’ll therefore, if you please,
43 Praise|     our theologians that they’ll give us leave to do it without
44 Praise|       his wisdom? Because, he’ll say, he has none at all.
45 Praise|    this new subdivision—for I’ll give you his own words,
46 Praise|     lion’s skin, go to, and I’ll show you that this happiness
