21     IV,  XVI   |  probability of the proofs. But of faith, and the precedency it ought
22     IV,  XVII  |            to be so by an implicit faith in their teachers and a
23     IV,  XVII  |    sometimes taken.~24. Reason and faith not opposite, for faith
24     IV,  XVII  |            faith not opposite, for faith must be regulated by reason.
25     IV,  XVII  |           wherein it is opposed to faith: which, though it be in
26     IV,  XVII  |          take notice that, however faith be opposed to reason, faith
27     IV,  XVII  |        faith be opposed to reason, faith is nothing but a firm assent
28     IV,  XVII  |  probability. But since reason and faith are by some men opposed,

40     IV,  XVIII |         knowledge. Because, though faith be founded on the testimony
41     IV,  XVIII |        receive them. For matter of faith being only divine revelation,
42     IV,  XVIII |      revelation, and nothing else, faith, as we use the word, (called
43     IV,  XVIII |             called commonly divine faith), has to do with no propositions,
44     IV,  XVIII |           alone the sole object of faith can say that it is a matter
45     IV,  XVIII |         say that it is a matter of faith, and not of reason, to believe
46     IV,  XVIII |             can never be matter of faith, but matter of reason; and
47     IV,  XVIII |      pretence that it is matter of faith: which can have no authority
48     IV,  XVIII |     revealed, the proper matter of faith. But, Thirdly, There being
49     IV,  XVIII |     revealed, the proper matter of faith. Thus, that part of the
50     IV,  XVIII |      reason, are purely matters of faith, with which reason has directly
51     IV,  XVIII |            revealed, are matter of faith; and must carry it against
52     IV,  XVIII |        examination, as a matter of faith.~9. Revelation in matters
53     IV,  XVIII |           that is purely matter of faith, and above reason.~Secondly,
54     IV,  XVIII |         and so it may be matter of faith, and be also above reason.

56     IV,  XVIII |           Thus far the dominion of faith reaches, and that without
57     IV,  XVIII |            is the proper object of faith: but whether it be a divine
