1 VII| Here followeth of Barlaam the Hermit.~Barlaam, of
2 VII| followeth of Barlaam the Hermit.~Barlaam, of whom S. John Damascene
3 VII| the land of Senaar named Barlaam. And this monk knew by the
4 VII| the king's son. To whom Barlaam said: My stone hath yet
5 VII| and am foul of sin. And Barlaam said: This thing appertaineth
6 VII| him honorably, and then Barlaam said to him: Thou hast done
7 VII| received me.~And after this Barlaam began to tell to him a long
8 VII| hand of poor men.~And when Barlaam had perfectly taught the
9 VII| father for to follow him, Barlaam said to him: If thou wilt
10 VII| will never depart. To whom Barlaam said: I have dwelled forty-five
11 VII| followed him into desert Barlaam said to him: If thou do
12 VII| shalt come to me. And then Barlaam baptized the king's son
13 VII| hermit that resembleth much Barlaam, and he is of our sect.
14 VII| shall feign him as he were Barlaam and shall defend first the
15 VII| desert as it were to seek Barlaam, and took this hermit and
16 VII| feigned that he had taken Barlaam. And when the king's son
17 VII| the king's son heard that Barlaam was taken he wept bitterly,
18 VII| shall know the truth, for Barlaam which hath delivered thee,
19 VII| assemble our people with Barlaam, and I shall send for all
20 VII| and if that ye with your Barlaam overcome us, we shall believe
21 VII| ordained that he that named him Barlaam should first defend the
22 VII| which feigned him to be Barlaam and said: Barlaam, thou
23 VII| to be Barlaam and said: Barlaam, thou knowest well how thou
24 VII| masters said to him: Thou art Barlaam which hast deceived the
25 VII| king, and he said: I am Barlaam which have not put the king'
26 VII| I wot well thou art not Barlaam, but thou art Nachor, the
27 VII| desert, and could not find Barlaam. And at the last he found
28 VII| Father, bless me, and anon Barlaam heard the voice of him,
29 VII| after Josaphat recounted to Barlaam all these things that were
30 VII| full of virtues. And when Barlaam had accomplished his days,
31 VII| was buried by the body of Barlaam. And when the king Barachius
