I| strong or mighty to labour ought to be idle. For which cause,
I| a psalm that, good work ought not to be done for fear
I| should see them. And it ought not to be believed that
I| solemn, by much more reason ought it to be of him that is
I| the Nativity of our Lord ought not to have none utas. For
I| Resurrection of our Lord ought not to have utas, for the
I| was then done. Hereto we ought to consider, like as saith
I| thus: Every christian man ought to be c puissance or might
I| signified and shewed that we ought to be circumcised, and cut
I| be but servants, and we ought to give to the hungry meat,
I| a child, so nobly showed ought to be born in the most noble
I| which yet were paynims ought not to appear to them as
I| where the Child was. And ye ought to know that there be three
I| greatly enjoyed. ~And we ought to note that there be five
I| And these three things ought we offer to God. The fifth
I| figuring the labour that yet we ought to do, and in fulfilling
I| crime and gluttony which he ought to repress. S. Gregory in
I| suffered for us, and we ought to suffer for him. The second
I| anon after our fasting we ought to receive the Body of Jesu
I| and bitter, right so we ought to withdraw and put us in
I| temper it. In summer we ought to fast to the end that
I| Ghost, and therefore we ought to be fervent and esprised
I| time the herbs die, and we ought to be mortified to the world.
I| same doctor saith thus: We ought to praise and to thank,
I| priest. Therefore four things ought to be considered in all
I| the manner of the Saviour ought to be by the contrary, therefore
I| thy grace. And how also we ought to return to the affiance
I| for so many benefits ye ought to choose to have my company.
I| As to the first point, it ought to be known that Jesus was
I| second consideration, it ought to be known that it is according
I| anon after his death he ought not to arise, but ought
I| ought not to arise, but ought to abide unto the third
I| his resurrection, and we ought to know that Jesu Christ
I| a new glorious life, so ought we in spiritual life to
I| appeared not to her; but that ought not to be believed that
I| resurrection. And the Virgin Mary ought not to be set in for no
I| in number of persons, we ought to fulfil it in number of
I| And in these Litanies we ought to repeat this song of angels:
I| teaching was necessary. And we ought to give thankings to the
I| apostles, and therefore there ought to be more days unto the
I| And for this first, they ought to ask each one other, because
I| merit he ascended; and we ought to understand that he ascended
I| whither he ascended, it ought to be known that he ascended
I| strength of God. And we ought to know that of his ascension
I| to God the Father. And we ought to hold us well assured
I| heart is full of grace, him ought not grudge by impatience.
I| all the sea ocean. Which ought to be understood that all
I| between brethren always ought to persevere love and friendship.
I| this time shall come, men ought to have surety that all
I| saith S. Bernard how we ought to render and give thankings
I| she is hallowed. And it ought first to be known of the
I| go to the altar. For they ought first to have charity in
I| that they signify that we ought to bear the cross of Jesu
I| have found me. For they ought have cure and watch upon
I| seven considerations that we ought to have unto the seven virtues
I| crucified him. ~Thirdly, they ought to have mind of the passion
I| given to him. ~Fifthly, they ought to have resplendor or brightness
I| the chrism or cream; they ought to have a pure conscience
I| Chrysostom saith that the clerks ought not to have no filth, ne
I| the church. ~Sixthly, they ought to have cleanness of good
I| fleeing courage. ~Secondly, it ought to be seen how the church
I| the church, wherefore it ought to be opened to him. For
I| one and other people which ought repute them for ashes and
I| which is signified that we ought to have in the dedication
I| this altar three things ought to be offered to God. The
I| with water, and so oft it ought to be watered or besprinkled.
I| the other sacraments we ought to have wine of spiritual
I| of these three things we ought to water our heart, the
I| third. Fifthly, the cross ought to be painted in this church,
I| is to understand that it ought to have the sharpnesses
I| penance. And these sharpnesses ought to be anointed and have
I| did it of childhood and ought not to die therefore, and
I| shall show to you what ye ought to do, and he shall speak
I| they live by. And therefore ought they to serve him with all
I| Sunday, and therefore we ought to keep it holily, and be
I| in God's service as they ought to do. And as God commandeth
I| not be eschewed, which men ought to restrain and refrain
I| taken, if he know to whom he ought to render it. And if he
I| ne grieve another, nor he ought not to missay ne speak evil
II| only having in thee, we ought not to have let thee go
II| not for them of right we ought against them? And so Judith
II| waste such things as they ought not touch, and therefore
II| The holy man and debonair ought not to suffer this. Then
II| delivered to him more than he ought to him. And when he had
II| they seek it not as they ought to do, as covetous men that
II| error of the faith they ought not to obey them. That is
II| to show to them how they ought to despise the world. And
II| avaunting and praising, ought to make us withdraw for
II| beneath in this misery, ought to pray devoutly to him
II| S. Thomas said, that he ought not to execute them, but
II| succour, for the bishops which ought to be with him were most
II| good record, wherefore he ought not to answer unto that
II| said Thomas: All that I ought to do by right, that will
II| glorious saint, and much he ought to be honoured in this world,
II| doubteth thee, much more I ought to doubt thee, and when
II| Then S. Anthony said: Ye ought to know that there be three
II| tofore S. John, and said he ought to be cursed therefor, because
III| much, she said: The visage ought to be like to be foul because
III| commandment of God, and the body ought to be chastised that hath
III| world, and the laughings ought to be recompensed by weepings,
III| soft bed and the sheets ought to be changed into the sharpness
III| said: If I should demand ought, I should find enough that
III| wheat of Jesu Christ, which ought to be grounden between the
III| weeping for her song; we ought to offer to our Lord instead
III| signified by the doves. We ought also to offer a pair of
III| As Bede saith: Contrition ought to begin in dread and end
III| company; so that soul that ought to sing, weepeth for love,
III| clean and acceptable, we ought to have in us three things
III| Gregory: The good work ought to show withoutforth that
III| for that she had need ne ought make her purification, for
III| one very belief, whom we ought to love because he hath
III| of body and of soul. This ought ye to believe to the end
III| Also good manners which ought to adorn the clean life,
III| that between God and them ought to be nothing ne mean that
III| signified that the clerks ought to take away from their
III| service divine, and also ought to be withdrawn from all
III| understood that the clerks ought not to have in their hearts
III| sins might assemble, but ought to have a clean conscience,
III| conscience, and also they ought to have truth in their mouths.
III| conversation of clerks or priests ought to be best adorned of good
III| one way, also the clerks ought to be simple in their conversation,
III| after that some say that he ought to have of all the gifts
III| mouth which God had kissed ought not to be defouled in touching,
III| in touching, and also he ought not to die on the earth
III| because all earthly creatures ought to hate him, but in the
III| Right dear brethren, well ought we to have doubt of the
III| that we feel it, and yet we ought to fear it, and to turn
III| every day meseemeth that I ought to die, and always I abide
III| God, and learned that they ought not doubt ne of abundance
III| That is to wit, how he ought to come into the glorious
III| the maidens and virgins ought to abide in their houses,
III| abroad out openly, and they ought also to flee the words of
III| example to virgins, which ought not lightly to speak, ne
III| was heard saying: Ambrose ought to be bishop: and anon all
III| death of good men, for he ought better to make joy because
III| they did things that they ought not to do, ne he would flatter
III| priests. Go out, for ye ought to be without the chancel
III| Ambrose, and such a man ought to be a bishop.~
III| the child affirmed that he ought to say none otherwise, but
III| an isle named Patmos. It ought not to be believed that
III| the ground, wherefore I ought as well to have the tenth
III| showed to us herein that we ought leave the things that men
III| people, and said that they ought not to suffer such injury
III| am foul and wasted, which ought to be baptized of thee and
III| the place where they rest ought much to be worshipped and
III| called in to their help. None ought to doubt that the enemy,
IV| and nourished in palaces ought to be by my side, and if
IV| speech. Cogitation or thought ought to be holy, affection clean,
IV| his invention, therefore ought it to be more solemn, and
IV| Laurence said to him: Whether ought he to be adored that maketh,
IV| that, after S. Stephen, ought to hold the primacy. Not
IV| reasons, and saith thus: We ought to receive the blessed man
IV| the faith of christian men ought to deserve to be of the
IV| is now your advice that I ought now to do to my mother of
IV| then much more our Lady ought to be glorified in heaven,
IV| nothing on this soul, but it ought to be mine, for I have thereof
IV| this instrument public he ought to be judged to me. And
IV| foregoers which did that ought not to be forgotten, and
IV| your children, how then ought not I to desire to go to
IV| to him. All said that it ought enough to suffice the witness
IV| virginity in her childing ought to see no corruption. And
IV| all the world in her belly ought to dwell in divine tabernacles.
IV| things that long to the son, ought to be possessed of the mother.
IV| sorrow in childing, then ought she not to have part of
IV| conceiving. And therefore we ought well to believe that he
IV| tabernacle of Jesu Christ, ought and appertaineth better
IV| saints. And I say that she ought not to be put, ne is not
IV| their distempered hunger. Ought he not to keep Mary for
IV| then, if I have said as I ought to say, Jesu Christ approve
IV| if I have not said as I ought to say, I pray thee to pardon
V| have seen him do it, so ought sooner to do it, which am
V| he that is servant of God ought not to despise my soul;
V| giveth to me, by which gift I ought not to be confounded, but
V| suspendings that he had, ought to be noted: He was suspended
V| thy bones, and what honour ought we to do to them, when thou
V| thing, he said, that he ought not to be ordained, the
V| statutes of the fathers ought to be said to ordain of
V| deceived. No man, saith he, ought to be sure in this life,
V| Augustin, and said that he ought to be slain like a wolf,
V| excellence that he were, ought not to die without confession,
V| unto this day, for the less ought to give place to the more
V| and after the law each ought to wed a wife of his own
V| debonair that sweet love which ought to please him. And that
V| of Rome, and therefore I ought not to be warned of my petition.
V| showed that none converted ought not mistrust of health,
V| S. Ambrose, some things ought to be noted in the conversion
V| And Cyprian said: Then ought I to be made friend of him
V| words, and therefore he ought not without pain use the
V| answered: If the church ought to be dedicated, that ought

V| our keepers, wherefore we ought to worship them. To every

V| God, Oreb. Thirdly, they ought to be honoured for they
V| Gregory. Fourthly, they ought to be honoured because that
V| Abraham's bosom. Fifthly, they ought to be honoured because they
V| pleaseth him. Sixthly, they ought to be honoured, for they
V| seventh and the last they ought to be honoured, because
V| we may understand that we ought to give honour to the holy
V| and Hebrew, so that none ought to be compared to him in
V| to them: My brethren, ye ought strongly to praise and give
VI| touching his neighbour, how he ought by reason teach him, draw
VI| intention. The affection ought to be holy, the thought
VI| neighbour when we do that we ought to do. After Richard of

VI| that it appear, that he ought to speak appertly; that
VI| kalends of November, for then ought to be greater abundance
VI| saints, and therefore we ought to honour them, that we
VI| saints and their relics ought to be honoured, of which
VI| us to God, wherefore they ought to be worshipped. Others
VI| solemnised any feasts as we ought to do, but negligently,
VI| in this general feast we ought to fulfil and amend it,
VI| human hath done less than he ought by ignorance, by negligence,
VI| diligent, how much more then ought they to do after their crowns,
VI| authority of the changer, for it ought to be done of the authority
VI| to say in charity, for he ought to be in charity. The third
VI| And when it is paid that ought to be paid, after, it is
VI| suffrages, three things ought to be considered. First,
VI| secondly, wherefore it ought to profit them; thirdly,
VI| bear nothing with them that ought to be burnt. And who that
VI| damnation be known there ought no suffrages to be done
VI| wherefore the suffrages ought to profit to them, it is
VI| them, it is to wit that it ought to profit for three reasons.
VI| and therefore their goods ought to be common; secondly,
VI| none, and thus, said he, ye ought to do.~He was of great power

VI| the pope said that they ought better do the office of
VI| tokens and miracles of saints ought to be showed, praised, and

VII| and time of battle, and we ought in no wise love them ne
VII| And others say when they ought to fight with the Vandelians

VII| the Pope answered that he ought to have the name of the
VII| more dishonestly than he ought to do, and brake the bones
VII| demanded of what death he ought to have that had slain a

VII| that the ordinance of God ought not to be contraried. And
VII| grant to them, and said they ought not change their old for
VII| how this poor present life ought to be despised, and nowithstanding
VII| of the holy cross. And ye ought to know that when the very
