1 I| our Lord, 'The History of David,' and 'The Life of S. Austin,'
2 I| ordain his law in alleging David the Prophet that saith:
3 I| names in witness; like as David saith: Ut faciant in eis
4 I| then was of the lineage of David, and dwelled in Nazareth,
5 I| sixth is confession, whereof David saith: Dixi confitebor,
6 I| said he by the mouth of David: Amici mei et proximi, etc.:
7 I| tenderness of his body. Whereof David saith in figure of him in
8 I| lie in the earth. Whereof David saith, Non dabis sanctum
9 I| mountain of Sion, where David had made his palace. And
10 I| ascended lightly. Whereof David saith: He styed up as a
11 I| it appeareth by this that David saith: Ascendisti in altum,
12 I| this he ascended. Whereof David saith: A summo cœlo egressio
13 I| all the heavens material David said it clearly which said,
14 I| the angels, appeareth by David, that saith: He ascended
15 I| meekness. Of the third saith David: Adscendit super cherubim,
16 I| drops. And this is that David saith: The Holy Ghost shall
17 I| Holy Ghost, after this that David saith: Auferes spiritum
18 I| burneth the silver. Also David saith: Lord I pray thee,
19 I| Ghost came. And hereof saith David: Lord God, thou art he that
20 I| and clean. Therefore saith David: The grace of the Holy Ghost
21 I| trumpet and hereof saith David: Praise ye him in the sound
22 I| flesh, and hereof saith David: Thou shalt accept the sacrifice
23 II| sent messages to Jesse for David, and Jesse sent David his
24 II| for David, and Jesse sent David his son with a present of
25 II| evil spirit vexed Saul, David harped tofore him and anon
26 II| Israel were sore afraid. David was at this time in Bethlehem
27 II| and took all the pillage. ~David took the head of Goliath
28 II| tabernacle. And Abner brought David, having the head of Goliath
29 II| the son of Saul, loved David as his own soul. Saul then
30 II| his sword and spear, unto David. And David did all that
31 II| and spear, unto David. And David did all that ever Saul bade
32 II| hath slain a thousand and David hath slain ten thousand.
33 II| said: They have given to David ten thousand and to me one
34 II| this cause Saul never loved David after that day, ne never
35 II| means afterward to destroy David, for he dreaded that David
36 II| David, for he dreaded that David should be lord with him,
37 II| and put him from him. And David was wise and kept him well
38 II| times peace between Saul and David, yet Saul kept no promise,
39 II| ever lay in wait to slay David. And Jonathan warned David
40 II| David. And Jonathan warned David thereof. And David gat him
41 II| warned David thereof. And David gat him a company of men
42 II| mountains. ~And on a time David was at home with his wife
43 II| heard thereof, she said to David: But if thou save thyself
44 II| morn Saul sent spies for David, and it was answered to
45 II| Saul messengers for to see David, and said to them: Bring
46 II| go or I shall slay thee. ~David went to Samuel in Rama and
47 II| it was told to Saul that David was with Samuel, and he
48 II| wroth asked where Samuel and David were, and went to them,
49 II| and night before Samuel. David then fled from thence and
50 II| therefore, for he loved well David. After this Saul ever sought
51 II| ever sought for to slay David. And on a time Saul went
52 II| cave for to ease him, and David was within the cave, to
53 II| now go and slay him. And David said: God forbid that I
54 II| gone out, soon after issued David out and cried to Saul saying:
55 II| said Saul. Art thou not David my son? Yes, said David,
56 II| David my son? Yes, said David, I am thy servant, and kneeled
57 II| house of my father; and David sware and promised to Saul.
58 II| departed and went home, and David and his people went in to
59 II| clipped his sheep, to whom David sent certain men, and bade
60 II| and bade them say that David greeted him well, and whereas
61 II| answered to the children of David: Who is that David? Trow
62 II| children of David: Who is that David? Trow ye that I shall send
63 II| men returned and told to David all that he had said. Then
64 II| that he had said. Then said David to his men: Let every man
65 II| and gird him withal, and David took his sword and girt
66 II| sword and girt him. And David went and four hundred men
67 II| Nabal's wife, how that David had sent messengers from
68 II| messengers, and was made wife to David. And David also took another
69 II| made wife to David. And David also took another wife called
70 II| After this Saul alway sought David for to slay him. And the
71 II| Zyphites told to Saul that David was hid in the hill of Hachilah

74 II| people. Then said Abishai to David: God hath put thine enemy
75 II| no need to dread him. And David said to Abishai: Slay him
76 II| God and be innocent? And David said yet more: By the living
77 II| of water, and let us go. David took the spear and the cup
78 II| they slept all. Then when David was on the hill far from
79 II| the hill far from them, David cried to the people and
80 II| and wakest the king? And David said to Abner: Art thou
81 II| Saul knew the voice of David and said: Is not this thy
82 II| not this thy voice, my son David? And David said: It is my
83 II| voice, my son David? And David said: It is my voice, my
84 II| in many things. Then said David: Lo! here is the spear of
85 II| anguish. Saul said then to David: Blessed be thou, my son
86 II| Blessed be thou, my son David. And David went then his
87 II| thou, my son David. And David went then his way, and Saul
88 II| returned home again. ~And David said in his heart: Sometime
89 II| And Achish delivered to David a town to dwell in named
90 II| from thee and gone unto David? God shall do to thee as
91 II| give it to thy neighbour David. For thou hast not obeyed

107 II| king anointed of our Lord. ~David sorrowed and bewailed much
108 II| of Jonathan. After this David counselled with our Lord
109 II| Israel came and did homage to David in Hebron, and anointed
110 II| anointed him king over them. ~David was thirty years old when
111 II| upon all Israel and Judah. David then made him a dwelling-place
112 II| and helping them against David, whom David overcame and
113 II| them against David, whom David overcame and slew and put
114 II| at a siege tofore a city, David was at home, and walked
115 II| her with child. And when David understood that she was
116 II| and Joab sent Uriah to David, and David demanded how

129 II| meat thereof to his guest. David was wroth and said to Nathan:
130 II| double. Then said Nathan to David: Thou art the same man that
131 II| all Israel. And then said David to Nathan: Peccavi! I have
132 II| house. And for this sin David made this psalm: Miserere
133 II| is a psalm of mercy, for David did great penance for these
134 II| communed of the history of David; and this said nobleman
135 II| me that he had read that David did this penance following
136 II| well-beloved of God, and after David, Solomon was king. ~After
137 II| Solomon was king. ~After this David had much war and trouble
138 II| time Amnon, oldest son of David, loved Thamar his sister.
139 II| complained unto Absalom. David knew hereof, and was right
140 II| it was told to the King David that Absalom had slain all
141 II| as king of Israel. When David heard this he was sore abashed
142 II| father to depose him. And David ordained his people and
143 II| whatsomever happed, and then David bade them to save his son
144 II| a great stone. And when David knew that his son was slain,
145 II| ever yet fell to thee. Then David the king arose and sat in
146 II| and after came again unto David when they knew that Absalom
147 II| gathered people against David. Against whom Joab with
148 II| whom Joab with the host of David pursued, and drove him unto
149 II| Joab pleased. After this David called Joab, and bade him
150 II| was numbered, the heart of David was smitten by our Lord
151 II| for I have done follily. David rose on the morn early,
152 II| saying: that he should go to David and bid him choose one of
153 II| to him. When Gad came to David he said that he should choose
154 II| shall answer to our Lord. David said to Gad: I am constrained
155 II| now, withdraw thy hand. David said to our Lord when he
156 II| father. Then came Gad to David and bade him make an altar
157 II| plague ceased in Israel. ~David was old and feeble and saw
158 II| on him to be king during David's life. For which cause
159 II| Bathsheba and Nathan came to David, and tofore them he said
160 II| his father's throne, and David worshipped him in his bed,
161 II| ceased Adonijah. The days of David approached fast that he
162 II| to rule it well. And when David had thus counselled and
163 II| buried with his fathers. This David was an holy man and made
164 II| temple to God. And when David had reigned forty years
165 II| his fathers in the city of David. ~
166 II| History of Solomon. ~After David, reigned Solomon his son,
167 II| and silver that his father David had sanctified and hallowed,
168 II| of God from the city of David, Sion, into the temple.
