40. Corrigan to Scalabrini96

         New York, November 11, 1891

Most Reverend Excellency and dear Friend:

Your Most Reverend Excellency gives me continued proof of the good memory you keep of me and I am very happy to have found in you the sincerity of a friend and the affection of a brother. I received and read with pleasure your pastoral letter dated October 15.97 While thanking you for this gift, I cordially congratulate Your Excellency for the good thought developed there with such great erudition and in so elegant a style really worthy of you. I especially noted your ideas on the Episcopal dignity and the unity of thought within the so many topics dealt with.

Wishing you in the meantime every happiness, let us pray the Lord for his help in making our work fruitful. I embrace you and with joy I remain

Your most Reverend Excellency’s very devoted servant and affectionate friend,

Michael Augustine, Archbishop of New York
