61. Scalabrini to Corrigan¹³³

         Cincinnati, October 6, 1901

Your Excellency:

On my arrival yesterday in this city of Cincinnati I found many letters waiting for me here and among them was that Your Excellency had the goodness to write me under date of September 17 last.

            I am very grateful for your kind attention and I have no words to express the feelings of my soul. May God reward and bless you.

            I am grieved to learn that the matter of the Church of the Transfiguration did not turn out the way I desired. All the more so because I do not know what the future of St. Joachim’s will be. But the Lord is pleased also with our good intentions and so we must be likewise.

            On Saturday I shall be back at the Archiepiscopal Residence and I shall promptly pay you my humble respects.

            I commend myself to your prayers and with expressions of deep gratitude I am, of Your Reverend Excellency....
